In 2018, I was told to teach the Creative and Performing Arts to my Kindergarten students. I instantly thought to teach them Bollywood dance as I wanted to challenge myself and also had high expectations from my students who were from multicultural backgrounds. For them it will be an exposure to different culture and will also bring a positive change in them.

They not only learnt the dance moves but learnt the lyrics too. It was so much fun to teach them the upbeat high energy Bollywood dance. They put bindis, henna and wore colourful Bollywood costumes and shared the joy of dance at a special assembly at school in front of their parents. The parents were enthralled to see their performance. It turned out to be ABSOLUTELY MAGICAL.

I realised how art and dance could bring meaningful change in their lives. Next week one of the parents with a few students came to my office and presented me with the 2 beautiful, personalised cards signed by the students. I was overwhelmed. Since then these cards are always on my desk. They remind me of those lovely moments shared with them and brings an instant smile to my face on a gloomy day. It was definitely a matter of pride for me as I wanted to give them a taste of my culture and they embraced that so well. This is the reason why I love my profession.
