Why do you teach?
Teaching is a profession that can change the world, teaching can change lives. I am passionate about education, seeing the positive impact I can have on students. I am motivated to make a difference in students' lives every day. My own love of learning inspires me to ignite the same passion in students to become lifelong learners.
What's your stand out/most memorable teaching moment?
I have the privilege of working in a hospital school, which allows me the opportunity to work with vulnerable students and their families. Last year, I worked with a student for 6 weeks while he was a patient in the hospital. I liaised with his classroom teacher to ensure this student was completing the same work as his peers. In fact, on his return to his census school, he had completed more than what was expected and was working above stage level. I transitioned back to school with him to complete a handover of work with his teacher and write safety plans moving forward. At the end of the year, I was excited to be invited to his end of year assembly to witness him receive the vice captain role for the following year.
Have you received a special keepsake from your student/s that you treasure?
Over the years, I keep the special cards and letters from students and their parents as reminders of their learning journey.
