Keegan Peace

Primary School,
Queensland

Every day I am overjoyed with moments where I feel like I am the best teacher in the world, among many other great teachers. One moment in particular was when I decided I wanted to start my own History Club at the school. I wasn’t sure if kids would be interested, but I was overwhelmed with so many enthusiastic children that wanted to learn more about the local history around them.

From this club, the kids have been delighted to work on projects with local veterans, sports figures, community members and I will never forget the delightful surprise when I was lucky enough to organise a visit from former Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, to talk to the students about his history and the historical events he lived through.

Mr Howard’s visit had an immense impact on the children. His visit inspired the students to work hard on their own projects in the club. He didn’t limit the beginning of his achievements and history to a university, or to jobs, and this gave the students something to take back with them.
