Early on in my career I discovered the beauty of inquiry-based teaching in physical education. This meant asking students questions which engaged them in learning and which provided me with the feedback I needed to guide them to the required outcome.
Not only did it make an impact on my approach to teaching, but my students thrived in the engaging lessons. I remember one time when a group of grade 5 students came to me after a lesson and praised me for asking them questions and listening to their answers, which made them more excited to undertake PE each week.
It was one of many moments over 22 years of teaching that confirmed I'd made the right choice to be a student-centred teacher.
