Jayme Rafferty

Secondary School, Mathematics,
Queensland

I had a student who appeared in my Year 9 class who was not afraid to express her displeasure with maths! I could tell she had not experienced much success in my subject and so I went about the process of making her successful in the area of maths.

There was a fair amount of resistance, but in the end, it all worked out marvellously. Her story is, without a doubt, one of my favourite teaching memories. She ended up being very successful in maths and school, and I'm proud I had a hand in that. For 35 years my goal has been to help students understand maths, and it has given me much joy to watch it happen.

Her story is, without a doubt, one of my favourite teaching memories.
