After only two years in Australia, I was gifted with the challenge of teaching a group of academically talented year 3 and 4 students. One of my year 3 students immediately stood out to me, he was quiet but unbelievably gifted. He was able to complete any task he was presented with, to the extent that I had to start sourcing university level work for him. I swiftly recommended an IQ test and we established he was in the 99.9th percentile.
This child has now been accelerated two years and he is still very much flying high. I feel privileged and forever grateful for the opportunity to teach such an amazing human, and I know that I will see him doing something amazing in years to come. He made me weep at the end of the year when he presented me with the most beautiful memento and letter explaining how much I had changed his life by recognising his ability that had been hidden before. He explained how my teaching had given him the freedom to be who he always knew he could be.
