During a ‘warm fuzzy’ activity on Music Tour this year, a student wrote me a message expressing appreciation for the way I have developed relationships with all my students and how I look after them as if they were my own children. This student has faced challenges and setbacks, so we spent many music lessons talking through issues, coming up with strategies to address problems, breaking down tasks and making plans for the next step and she has been encouraged to find her own way forward.
Sometimes lesson plans must be set aside in favour of relationship building and problem solving! As she prepares to finish Year 12, it warms my heart to see her empowered by my support, ready to face the world, confident in her own abilities, grateful for the time and advice I provided.
