In 2015, I taught a student who was new to our school. She was doing art classes with her mum and asked if she could have a photo of me, as she wanted to paint my portrait. She entered the painting in a local art competition and I went along to opening night with my colleagues.
I felt incredibly special standing alongside this portrait of me hanging on the wall. The student gifted the painting to me at the end of the year. Over the year she grew both academically and in her confidence. She then went on to be school captain the following year. This painting is really precious as it signifies how important relationships are in teaching.
